How to Choose the Right Online Poker Room For You

As there’s a number of poker platforms available online, it is not easy to find out the best website where you can put your hard earned money to play real cash games without any worries about its safety and privacy. Although all poker rooms look like the same, every website offers some unique type of gaming features, game variants, interface, software, bonuses, etc which makes them very different from one another.

If you are looking to join an online poker room which not only provides you unlimited entertainment but also gives you maximum opportunities to win big prizes, this article will definitely help you a lot.

Here are few important things which you MUST consider before choosing a gaming platform to play poker.

Authenticity

Check if the website is regulated and certified by the authorities to operate its services in India. There are many websites available online which operates its activities in the country without any licence. The website must follow the gaming and taxation rules and regulations of the country. The website must be RNG (Random Number Generator) certified from a reputed 3rd party certification agency for fair play and random distribution of cards.

Traffic

One of the most important things which you must consider is availability of game tables 24×7. Along with multi-table feature, the website must allow players to play as per their convenient timings, for example- evenings, weekends, or late night. Also find out the number of players actively playing on the website. The higher the number of players, the higher the number of games the website has to host to satisfy their gaming needs. That means anytime you enter the poker room, you will definitely find a table waiting for you to sit and become a part of the action.

Type of Games available

Check how many variants of poker games are available to play on the website. There are so many popular poker variants available online such as Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Crazy Pineapple, Stud, etc. It is also important to find out how many types of games the website is hosting such as ring games, SnG, MTTs, etc.

User Experience

The user interface should be visually attractive and user-friendly. Easily identifiable lobby buttons and top notch graphics enhance player’s gaming experience. Also check if the website provides the option to play the games on different devices such as android, iPhone, or Mac.

Safe and Secure Financial Transactions

The website must accept payments through safe and transparent methods such as Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net banking/ E-Wallets, etc. Check how fast is the cash-out process (how much time website takes to transfer your winning amount into your bank account).

Tutorials

Other than hosting games, some websites provide poker lessons through blogs, infographics, training videos, etc so that new players can understand the basics and experienced players can improve their skills. As it is important to consistently update your skills and knowledge to survive in the highly competitive environment of a poker room, you need to choose only that website which offers best poker training tools available in the market.

Affordability

You need to check which website allows players to play with small buy-ins and stakes. Some websites even provide the facility to play without investing any money. They host freeroll tournaments where you can participate with practice chips and win real money or cash bonuses.

Offers & Promotions

It is also important to find out how much the website appreciates you as a player. Check how often the website provides additional benefits such as exclusive bonus offers, reward points, entry to special tournaments, rakeback, etc to its regular players. You should also check for the type of welcome bonus the website offers for the first time depositors.

These are the basic parameters which every player should follow before selecting a poker website to play with real money. Read reviews on public forums to know about other users’ experience with the website. Create an account and start playing freeroll games. Play with real cash only when you are 100% confident about the reliability and authenticity of the website.

Interesting Poker Terms You Can Use To Impress Everyone – Part III

Check out these cool poker terms you can use in an offline or online poker tournament:

ADVERTISING

Advertising is a strategy where the player deliberately shows his average hand to opponents to give the impression that he is a loose player. The opponents start considering him a weak player and giving him more chances to act. When that player receives strong cards, he can make others enter the pot easily. It is not a very effective strategy to implement against experienced opponents as they can easily read the tells when the player has a good hand.

AIR

A hand with no (zero) value.

BETTING ON THE COME

When the player bets on a draw (incomplete hand). For example- you bet when you have four cards of diamonds and you need one more card to complete the flush.

BLEEDING

Consistently losing the chips on the game table during a poker session.

BLOCKING BET

Making a smaller than average bet out of position to prevent the opponent from betting a big amount and making it difficult for the player to call. Players usually make this bet on the river when they feel uncertain about the superiority of their hand and want to see a cheap showdown.

BUBBLE

The period before reaching in the money in poker tournaments. The player who gets eliminated during the bubble period does not get anything. Remaining players reach the final table to claim their share on the prize money. For example- if as per tournament’s rules only 10 final participants will get the money, the player who gets eliminated at the 11th spot will be “bubbled” (ends up without any money).

BURN

Discarding the top card of the deck before distributing cards to the players for a betting round.

CARD DEAD

Consistently getting weak (low value) cards for a long period of time during a poker session.

CASE CARD

The last (fourth) card in the deck of a specific rank. For example- If the flop is 10 Spade, 10 Club, and 10 Diamond and you have 10 Heart, then your in-hand card is a case card.

DEPOSIT BONUS

The special bonus you receive when you deposit real money first time at a casino or an online poker website to play poker.

DONKEY

The term used for unskilled players on a poker table.

FISH

The weakest player on the table. The player who does not know how to play properly and implement logic and strategies in the game

FREE CARD

When the player is drawing in a hand and sees the next card without making a bet. For example- if your opponent is first to act and he checks, he provides you the opportunity to see the card for free (without putting more money into the pot).

GOING SOUTH

Another name for ratholing. It is an unethical activity where the player takes a part of his chips off the table with the purpose of cashing it out. Players usually do that after winning a big pot to ensure that they can take home at least that amount of money which they removed from the table.

OVER CARDS

Hole Cards that are superior to cards on the board in the terms of ranking. For example- you have 10 and Q of Hearts and the flop comes 2 of Club, 5 of Hearts, and 8 of Diamond, your hole cards are the over cards (higher rank cards).

RAG

A weak hand.

RUNNER RUNNER

A hand which became complete only after getting the required cards on both turn and river.

SHOWDOWN

When players reveal their cards face-up on the table and compare their strength at the end of a betting round. The player with the best hand wins the round. Showdown happens only when more than one player remains in the game after completing all the betting rounds.

5 Things Not to do in a Live Poker Tournament

5 Things Not to do in a Live Poker Tournament

Many players experience rapid heartbeat, shaky hands, dry mouths, and other signs of anxiety when they sit opposite poker giants in a live poker tournament.

The stressful environment of a poker tournament can even lead the calmest and toughest souls to make grave mistakes at the game table.

Live poker tournaments are battlegrounds for serious poker players. You are probably told many times what to do when you play live tournament, but here, we are highlighting things which you should not do in a live tournament.

If you want to survive in the ruthless world of poker for a long time and make profits whenever you play on a live table, avoid doing these things at all costs:

Getting Intimidated By Fellow Players

Poker players know how important it is to maintain concentration and focus in the game to make logical decisions. “Bullies” on the table usually try to intimidate new players through eye contact, body language, and aggressive raises and re-raises. Their only motive is to distract the player by psychology attacking him and prompt him to take wrong decisions. Confidence and determination are the critical factors which can help you deal with such type of players.

Undervalue Bankroll Management

Bankroll is definitely something that should not be neglected when you play a high stake live tournament. Bankroll is the money which you keep aside just to play poker. A well-managed bankroll put you at an advantage over your opponents and support your game at the time of downswings. Unhealthy money management forces you to after other sources of finances and ultimately make you end up with little-to-no money to keep your game afloat.

Lack Of Preparation

Playing a live tournament without proper training and practice will only lead to failure. Preparation allows you to become calm and cool-headed during a tense poker session. Poker playing is not a one-shot deal. You need to continuously improve your game play to eliminate your weaknesses. Participate in a real stake live tournament only after acquiring proper knowledge, skill, and experience of the game. It will help you Identify the type of opponent you are playing against, analyse his betting pattern, calculate the odds, and choose the best strategy to implement as per the situation on the table.

No Control On Emotions

Many novice, as well as established players fail to control the temptation of venting out their frustration to other players when they face bad beats or downswings. NEVER belittle your opponents in any situation or abuse when you lose or your bluff get caught. If you make players uncomfortable, they will stop committing themselves to the pot and start avoiding playing with you in the future. It is important to let weak players involved in the game to earn profits from their mistakes.

Not Changing Gears

It is crucial to stay unpredictable on the game table and change the strategy time-to-time to confuse opponents. Maintaining a balance is important. For example- If you are a loose player, you can start playing starting hands tight as per the situation on the table like- when you have reached the bubble or you are short stacked or deep stacked. The objective of changing gears in poker is to not let your opponent read your playing style and devise a game plan against you.

There are so many methods to improve your chances of winning and maximize profits when it comes to playing live. There are also several methods to crush your game with your own hands. It is necessary to learn thoroughly and understand what to do and what not to do before joining a live poker tournament table.

The Most Effective Texas Hold’em Poker Strategy Which Beginners Overlook

The Most Effective Texas Hold’em Poker Strategy Which Beginners Overlook

On a poker table, what is the most important factor which gives you an edge over your opponents other than your skill set and strength of your hand?

– Information.

This is not a secret anymore that you can take better decisions on the game table if you get the opportunity to observe the opponent’s game-play(betting pattern, bet size) and determine their hand strength.

That’s what position do! If you are in position, you can gather information about opponent’s hand by seeing all the betting action (bet, raise, re-raise) before your turn and utilize this knowledge in choosing the best move (bet, raise, or fold the cards).

What is Position?

Position in Texas Hold’em Poker is the order in which players sit around the game table. It is so significant aspect of the game that it can completely change the outcome of the game, regardless of the quality of the hand. “Play your position” – this simple yet crucial strategy is also considered as the most neglected playing strategy.

The dealer (player who distributes the cards) position changes clockwise after every hand on the table. Dealer button decides that which player is going to act at which position in the betting round. The player at the button acts after everyone in all betting rounds after the flop. Cut-off is the player seating right to the dealer. Playing in position refers to the player who is the last one to act in a betting round.

Early position (EP)

Players left to the button are the one who starts the action in all betting rounds (flop, turn, or river). The player sitting immediate left to the big blind is called as under the gun (UTG) and next to him is UTG+1. This position is considered  the worst position to play in most situations as the players have to act before every other player on a betting round. Without any knowledge of opponents’ game-play, the player in this position have to decide whether to continue or fold his cards. As you have less information about others when you are on EP, you can play with premium hands only. Playing with weaker hands can put you into big trouble once the betting ensues.

Middle position (MP)

Left to the early position players is the middle position. Players on this position act after early position players. The benefit of playing at this position is the player can make an educated decision about his game-play after seeing the action of EP players. The disadvantage is there are still late position players going to make a bet after you, so you need to decide whether to play loose or tight. MP players will become the first to act if EP players fold at their turn. If LP players fold, they will become the last to act in the round.

Late position (LP)

The most advantageous position on the table is the late position (on the button). Players on this position act after EP and MP in a betting round. They have the opportunity to observe other players to have information about the strength of their hands and decide next move accordingly. It is easier to identify the weaker players on the table when you play in this position. As you have the edge in the game, you can play with any suited or connected pairs easily.

Despite knowing the importance of seating position on the Texas Hold’em poker table, novice players often forget to take this great opportunity of getting valuable information into account. They play their cards and attempt to make a bluff out of position with little-to-no information about opponents’ hard strength and betting strategy, which ultimately results in loss of their precious chips.

If you want to become a successful poker player, always pay attention to your position on the table.
