Top 5 Etiquette Rules for Online Poker Players

Top 5 Etiquette Rules for Online Poker Players

Most online players believe that as they are playing anonymously, there is no need to follow any rules of etiquette on the game table. But in reality, similar to live poker, the online version too have certain etiquette which are important to follow.

Etiquette is a set of guidelines which is important to follow to project the impression you want on the game table. Proper behavior help ease the uncertainty and unpredictability and replace them with direction, determination, and decisiveness.

Poker is a civilized game. If you are a regular online poker player, you must know how to properly act on the felt to ensure a fair game and avoid unnecessary disputes.

Good manners are the key to ensure success in poker. Here are some of the basic etiquette rules every player should follow religiously on an online poker table.

Always make your move within the allocated time

When you play online, you get a specific amount of time to act when your turn comes. It is okay to think about every aspect of the game before making your move, but taking longer time than expected irritates the opponents as they have to sit and wait for you to notice your turn and decide your action. Avoid distractions like TV, music, internet browsing, etc as they take away your focus from the game and lead to delayed action.

Don’t attack other players straight away for their mistakes

Don’t ruin others’ playing experience by throwing insults when they made a bad or annoying move. Everyone make mistakes but calling them out and commenting when you see them commit mistakes is NOT OKAY. Even if a weak player gets lucky against you, never insult or disrespect him. It is important to be nice and friendly to newbies and encourage lesser-skilled players. Don’t treat others the way you wouldn’t want to be treated yourself. Also, if you scare off the “fish”, you will lose the opportunity to earn great profits from them in long run.

Never show the cards you folded

Never tell other players what cards you folded if the hand is still in play. Don’t offer any information about the strength of your folded cards to the players who are still involved in the pot. By doing this, you are giving an unfair advantage to them, influencing their decision, and putting a negative impact on the game. Once the game is over, you can brag as much you want about making the best hand had you called.

Use Chat Feature Properly

The player can interact with fellow players through the chat feature. Never call people names, swear, and use cuss words in the online chat box. The gaming platform has the right to remove your chat privilege or even ban your online poker account if a fellow player reports you for abusive behavior.

Don’t’ involve in any type of illicit activities

Activities like collusion and chip dumping are forbidden as they undermine the integrity of the game. Playing in groups or sharing information about your hand with other players is considered cheating in poker. Never break the rules of the game and report to the website if you find some involved in such sort of behavior.

NEVER underestimate the importance of etiquette in the world of poker. If you are new to poker, take your time and observe how other players behave on the virtual game table to understand the unspoken and unwritten rules of conduct. Remember that even if you are playing behind a computer screen, you are still dealing with real people. Playing online poker is a fun and entertaining activity. It is crucial to learn the etiquette and adhere to it to enjoy the game at its fullest.

The Lessons Every Poker Player Can Learn From India’s Richest Man

Mukesh Ambani

He is considered the richest man in Asia. One of the most successful people of our times – Mukesh Ambani is the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited.

This dynamic and larger-than-life visionary is famous for his daring “never-give-up” attitude, down-to-earth nature, and exceptional foresightedness in the business world.

He is the main topic of conversation everywhere nowadays because of the high-profile wedding of his daughter Isha Ambani, which happened on 12th December. The lavish wedding ceremony costs around 7.2 Billion Indian Rupees, as per Time Magazine report.

According to Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Mukesh Ambani’s fortune is nearly $44.3 Billion.

Every person in the country wants to know the secrets of his extraordinary success in various spheres of business. What qualities does he possess that elevates him so greatly above his competitors?

Here are the principals this charismatic business tycoon follows that every sportsperson can learn from him –

Never Give-Up

“All of us, in a sense, struggle continuously all the time, because we never get what we want. The important thing which I’ve really learned is how do you not give up, because you never succeed in the first attempt.”

He started just like everyone – with a dream and lots of dedication. But the magic formula of his success is – setting a goal for himself, identifying the opportunity, and taking the right decision at the right time. In the game, you need to look for the right moment to make your move. Winning and losing is a part of poker. Losing big money can negatively affect your game-play and put you on “tilt”. It is crucial to make sure to never let your focus diverted from the ultimate goal. Review your game every time after a session to find out your mistakes and find out ways to make sure to not to repeat them in the future.

Establish your own Identity

“Dance to your own music and take some risks in life, because it is often the risk taker who changes the course of history

Mukesh Ambani’s story is like a piece of folklore. He joined the business of his father at a very young age. He lost his father as well as his uncle and his father’s business partner within a period of 5 months. But he learned the ins and outs of the trade in a very short period of time and ultimately turned the business into a goldmine. Similarly, in poker, you play the game all on your own. There are no friends but competitors once you sit on the game table. You have to create your own game play and identify your own route to success. You can learn from those who have already faced the same situation before but there is no need to stick to what others tell you to do. Stop caring what others think. Let people notice you for your innovating ideas and “never-seen-before” strategies.

Get Outside your comfort zone

“You can achieve big if you dare to dream big

You must have an unstoppable desire to succeed no matter the cost. There are distractions in the game as well as in life but never let them halt your progress. Remember that sitting comfortably on your couch binge-watching Netflix is not going to help you achieve success in the field you dream of. Be an action taker and start making efforts to develop the skills and abilities which are necessary to flourish in your game, your profession, and your personal life.

Patience

“It is important to remember, there are no overnight successes. You will need to be dedicated, single-minded, and there is no substitute to hard work.”

As per him, no matter whatever business you are in, there are always bound to be competitors. It is important to develop your own style and create uniqueness in whatever you do. When it comes to gaming, you have to do the exact same thing. You have to build the skills of measuring risk vs reward, money management, emotion control, etc.

The game of cards requires a good level of rational thinking, focus, and decision making abilities. If you think you have it in you, nothing holding you back. Be brave and strong. Start playing poker to showcase your talent on the game tables and carved a name for yourself in the realm of gaming.

Are Poker Cash Games Fundamentally Different From Tournaments?

Are Poker Cash Games Fundamentally Different From Tournaments

Cash games and tournaments are the two most popular formats of poker. Both of these formats are equally entertaining and enjoyable. Both of them can be played online and offline.

But what are the basic differences between these two?

As a poker player, here are some key factors which you need to consider before selecting a variant to showcase your poker talent.

Table

Cash games are played on one table only. You can join a cash game anytime and sit on any “empty seat” on the table to start the action. You can also leave the table anytime you want and exchange the chips you won for real money. Multi-table tournaments (MTT) are played on more than one tables. Players need to register themselves to join the table by paying the entry fees. If a player leaves the table during the game, he gets nothing from the prize pool. The tournament ends when there is only one player left on the table who won all the chips. The top players earn rewards on the basis of the position they finish. The player who survives until the end gets the biggest share of the prize pool.

Chips

In cash games, chips have a monetary value. Players buy these chips with real money. As per the stakes, there is a minimum and maximum buy-in limit. In tournaments, all players need to pay a specific amount of buy-in. They all receive the same amount of tournaments chips which don’t have any value in terms of real money.

Blinds

In cash games, blinds usually remain the same. Players can take their sweet time deciding their next action on their turn. In tournaments, blinds increase consistently (e.g. – after every 10 minutes) so players need to act more quickly than cash games.

Re-Buy

You can re-buy as many times you want in cash games whenever you are out of chips. In tournaments, you can re-buy only as per the rules of the particular tournament. In re-buy tournaments, you can re-buy only for a specific amount of time. After that, if you lose all your chips, you cannot purchase more chips to remain seated on the table. In freeze-out tournaments, re-buy feature is not available.

The rules of the game are basically the same in both formats. Poker tournaments are best for those who want to play against the best to test their expertise and earn their share from the gigantic prize pools. Cash games are preferable for those who don’t want to commit to the table for the long duration of time. Cash games have less variance than tournaments so it is a better choice for those players who are into small but steady profits. So always choose that format to play which best suits your level of interest and skill-set.

How to Control Your Emotions at an online Poker Table

How to Control Your Emotions at an online Poker Table

Emotion is a basic human tendency that automatically comes out in whatever action we commit. Be it a moment of joy or sorrow, we show our emotions and reveal our state of mind. Poker and emotions are closely associated with each other as the game changes its course suddenly. The players can only react to the situation. There come different emotional situations like joy, exclamation, anger, confusion while you are on a poker table. However, controlling one’s emotion while you are playing an online poker game is important to get a winning edge over your opponents.

Poker is a game of intelligence, skill and luck. So, there is no place for any other parameter in the game. When we get our minds pre-occupied with other thoughts, it hampers our strategy making and placing the right moves.

There is always tomorrow:

Remember that Rome was not built in a day. To be a successful and unbeatable player, you need to have patience at the online poker table. Give time to your making of a good poker player. As long as you have chips in front of you, you always have fair chance to stay and win in the game.

Avoid Confusion:

Playing without a game plan is one of the most dangerous things one can do with oneself in online poker. Make a solid note of what steps you need to take. Also make note of your definitive goals, whether small or big that you wish to achieve in a particular tournament. This will help you stay focused and with your limits.

Balance your expectations according to your capabilities:

There has to be a fine balance between your capabilities and expectations, which in turn will help you achieve what you really deserve. Becoming over-ambitious will give you nothing but frustration and failure.

Be sporty:

Respect the other players’ game strategy and accordingly plan yours. Never ever blame your opponents for any bad beat. Situation can take turn and you may end up committing one such move and make fun of yourself. This way, you can check making enemies at the poker table and help yourself focus more on the game.

Do more what you like more:

Poker is a part you’re your personality, it can never be your only personality. There are many a good thing that you already do day in and out. Hence, never lose your interest about the things like the most. For example, if you love listening to music, do that while you are at the poker table. That will not only lighten up your mood, but also help do away with the negativity and concentrate more on the game plan.

Take breaks:

If you keep on hammering on red hot iron, it will definitely break soon. Hence, give some time to yourself, every time you lose at a poker table. Take a break, have a sip of coffee or your favorite drink and do a quick analysis of what went wrong, in stead of playing another table to take revenge of what just happened. As a rule, take a break of about 15 minutes to build in a fresh prospective.

Watch your diet:

A healthy body is the base to a healthy and sharp mind. Hence, it is important to watch on your diet. Poker tournaments take longer time to finish and leave you mentally exhausted most of the time. You much replenish yourself with brain-nourishing diet. Avoid oily, fried food and any other food that makes you feel drowsy. Bank more on liquids and juices.

Your Key to Success: Online Poker As A Career In India

Online Poker As A Career In India

Poker is not an easy game.

But it is not hard either. As we have stated many times, the game helps the player greatly in developing mental abilities such as focus, critical thinking, patience, and decision-making skills. Also, you can earn fabulous prizes by participating in online poker cash games and tournaments.

But, what about playing online poker for a living?

Playing online poker is not a conventional way of earning “bread-n-butter” in India. In our society, where most people prefer doing a monotonous and boring job for financial security than following their passion just because they don’t want to come out of your comfort zone, it is not easy to make everyone understand that there is a “dream job” which has flexible working hours, which doesn’t require you to sit in a cubicle for hours and report to your boss every day, and which allows you take as many days off as you want.

People still perceive poker as a chance-based game But, in reality, poker is a game of strategy and wits and winning in the game depends on player’s ability to understand the situation and take the right decision at the right time.

The number of professional poker players is increasing exponentially in India. Indian poker players like Nikita Luther, Aditya Agarwal, Amit Jain, Nikunj Jhunjhunwala, etc are earning top honors in national and international poker tournaments nowadays.

Like any other job, there are certain traits and qualities a poker player must have to ensure making profits in the long run. Some of these are as follows-

Skills

Mastering the game of poker is not something which you can do without study and practice. Playing poker requires acquiring necessary skills and basic knowledge of the game. Poker is a highly-competitive mind sport and there are no shortcuts which can make you successful poker player overnight. As you have to compete with people of different skill sets and experience levels, it’s necessary to put as much time and efforts to learn and improve your game before entering the ruthless world of poker.

Understanding of psychology and mathematics

It is important to know how to get a read on your opponents to estimate the strength of their cards and future moves. Along with that, you must have the basic understanding of how to calculate outs, pot odds, variance, etc to predict the possibility of you winning the hand.

Time Management

Time management allows you to create a healthy balance between your game, health, and relationships. Decide how many hours you can invest in the game per week. When you play, your 100% attention should be only on your game. When you are with your family or friends, make sure that you spend a quality time with them.

Money Management

How effectively you can manage your money? It is important to maintain a healthy bankroll to support your game at the time of downswings. It is easy to get tempted with big tournaments with huge prize pools. What’s crucial here is to understand your limits and play only at those levels which suits your budget.

Discipline is the key.

It is true that risk is involved in the game as you need to play with real money. Winning and losing is an integral part of poker. You cannot escape from bad beats or downswings, so you must prepare yourself mentally and financially to deal with it and ensure playing your best every time you sit on the game tables.

The most important question you must ask yourself is: Are you really passionate about poker?

It’s not just about being your own boss. It’s about doing what you love the most.
